

Carmen Violet DeLay, 85, of Chatham, passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center, with her family by her side. She was born on August 23, 1929, in Scottville, IL to Willie and Viva Eades Stone. Violet married Oakley F. DeLay, February 15, 1947 and he preceded her in death, April 8, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Dixie Marie; granddaughter, Tammy Hoskins; brothers, Gilbert and Norville. Violet and Oakley owned Leisure Lakes, a fee fishing-bait and tackle business near Chatham. Fishermen came from miles around to see �Miss Vi� and fish in the two lakes that were stocked with huge catfish and carp! Mrs. DeLay, was a registered nurse, and graduated with a Masters Degree in human development counseling. She worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health for 21 years. She will be greatly missed by her children, Sharron (Steve) Magyar of Chatham, Betty DeLay of Shelbyville, KY, Linda Wallace of Maryland Heights, MO, Deborah (Jim) White of Franklin, IL, Nancy DeLay PhD of Chatham, John (Tami) DeLay of Mason, Ohio; grandchildren, Stephanie Hoover, Angela Richardson, Shelly DeQuichi, Valaree McCarry, Denise Ridgway, Jamie Wallace, Christopher Wallace, Jeffrey Wallace, Bradley Wallace, Aim�e Donnellon, Ren�e DeLay, Joshua White, Daniel White, Samuel White; great grandchildren, Stephen Brown, Amber Hoskins, Morgan Hoskins, Zachary Lyon, Cheyenne Hoover, Carmen Walker, Heather Dedeaux, Luciano DeQuichi, Dominic DeQuichi, D�Angelo DeQuichi, Liam McCarry, Jessica Ridgway, Madison Wallace, Jackson Wallace, Elise Wallace, Leslie Wallace, Ryan Donnellon, Alex Donnellon, Ben Donnellon, Maggie White, Izzie White, Kennon White, Owen White, MeKenzie White; great-great grandchildren, Lilly Gristy and Crystal Walker; brothers, Merle (Mary Ann) Stone and Duane (Barbara) Stone, of Waverly; sister Madeline Box of Whittier, CA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Her family will greet friends from 4-7pm, Wednesday, October 29th, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Rt.4, Chatham. A Celebration of Vi�s life will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, October 30th at Staab Polk Memorial Home, with her pastor, Pastor Dennis Mumaw officiating. Burial will follow at Waverly East Cemetery.
