

Carol M. Ballard, 68, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center. Carol was born March 8, 1942 in Springfield, the daughter of Emil and Mickey Santini Kusturin. Carol graduated from Lanphier High School and after receiving her degree in cosmetology, she owned and operated two salons in Springfield. She also owned a beauty salon school. Carol managed several salons in Las Vegas, NV and performed in hair styling platform work for 15 years. For the past several years, she was a jewelry and cosmetics consultant for Meijer in Springfield. Carol also participated in the American Cancer Society Look Good Feel Better program for five years. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Deborah Kusturin. She is survived by three children; Norman M. Ballard, Sr. of Ellwood City, PA, Lucia Marie Ballard, and Jason Ballard of Springfield; five grandchildren, Milana Marie Ballard and Norman M. Ballard, Jr., Olivia Elaine Ballard, Hannah Marie Morris-Ballard, and Jackson Mitchell Ballard; two brothers, William (wife, Linda) Kusturin and John (wife, Jeanette) Kusturin, both of Springfield; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September, 3, 2010 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 524 E. Lawrence, Springfield, IL with Rev. Stephen Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 687 E. Linton Ave., Springfield, IL 62703.
