

Carol Ellen Colborn, 92, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital, after residing at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Her body had been donated to SIU Anatomical Gifts Department in Carbondale, IL. After anatomical procedures were completed, her body was cremated and returned to be put to rest next to her late husband.
She was born in Divernon, IL, on January 9, 1923 to William R. and Pauline Derbyshire Clow. She moved to Springfield when she was five. Carol graduated from Springfield High, Springfield Jr. College and the University of Michigan.
After returning from college, she married Adrian C. Colborn on October 26, 1947 and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together before his death on July 26, 2000.
Carol worked at the Illinois State Library, was self-employed with her husband at Midwest Pest Control and finally retired from Sentinel Pest Control in 1988.
She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband across the United States in their motor homes, belonging to the Lincoln Land Coachmen and Champion motor home groups. She also enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing at Springfield Motor Boat Club for over 50 years.
Carol enjoyed most of all spending time with her family members and members of Lakeside Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include her son, David (Sandy) Colborn; grandson, Robert (companion, Stephanie Fickas) Colborn; granddaughter, Nicole Colborn; step-granddaughters, Lindsey (Mike) Capitano, Chelsea (Chad) Walton; three great-grandchildren, Hailey, Kemari and Noah; and three step-great-grandchildren, Tony, Charlee and Channing, all from Springfield area. Also surviving are 10 nieces and nephews.
Graveside Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, IL in the Garden of Good Shepherd area, Block 43.
The family and church will be hosting a Celebration of Life following the graveside ceremony at Lakeside Christian Church, 225 Toronto Rd., Springfield, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeside Christian Church, 225 Toronto Rd., Springfield, IL 62711.
