Carol Suhs

Carol Suhs, 75, of Springfield, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, AL. Carol was born December 17, 1937 in Chicago, the daughter of Robert and Mary Coffey Benson. She married Dr. Richard H. Suhs on September 10, 1960 in Chicago; he preceded her in death on October 5, 2012. Carol graduated from U of I College of Nursing in 1960. She was a past Board President and held various other offices with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sangamon Co., an honorary board member, and recipient of the Regional Big Brother Big Sister of the year awarded in 1991. Carol had volunteered at St. Monica's Home and also St. John's Hospice. She was an active member of the Springfield Cachet Club and the Over 50 Club at Christ the King Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and her brother Robert Benson. She is survived by her son, Richard (wife, Margie) Suhs of Daphne, AL; two daughters, Amy (husband, Jeff) Morrison of Melrose, MA, and Linda (husband, William) Cleveland of Zionsville, IN; and seven granddaughters, Tara and Rachel Suhs; Alyssa, Emma, and Anne Morrison; Alex and Hannah Cleveland. She is also survived by her brothers Tim and John Benson and sister Pat Sterling, several cousins and nieces and nephews. Cremation was accorded prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:15 a.m. on April 27, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield. A Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Joseph Ring, celebrant. Inurnment to follow at Immaculata Columbaria at Calvary Cemetery.
