Carole was born October 12, 1947, in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Gatchel) Ludwig. Carole married George Ficke on June 1, 1968, at Blessed Sacrament in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death in 2022.
Carole was a proud graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Springfield High School, Class of 1965. A lifelong member of the Springfield community, Carole held her faith close to her heart. She was a dedicated volunteer in several organizations, including St. Joseph’s Home Coterie, Progress Circle for KDO, Blessed Sacrament community, and PEO.
Professionally, Carole worked as an office manager at John Lampros Architects and later at Ferrys & Associates, where she dedicated 20 years of service. Outside of her career, Carole had a deep love for travel, gardening, and community service. She also enjoyed selling Avon. She had a feisty and competitive edge, having a special fondness for playing poker with friends and family. Her greatest joy in life was her three granddaughters whom she loved with all her heart.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Margaret; husband, George; and daughter, Christine Ficke.
Carole is survived by her son, David Ficke of Springfield; three grandchildren, Nora E. Ficke, Lillie A. Carter, and Hailey Rose Hollen; sister, Kaye A. (Dennis) Stolarik of Lake Villa, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carole bravely fought many health issues, including Alzheimer’s and diabetes. We were so fortunate to be able to have her at her beloved home until the end. We will always have the deepest gratitude for her dedicated and loving caregivers; Jane, Kate, Bert, and Sherry.
Cremation is being provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
A private graveside will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in New Berlin.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
