

She was born on November 9, 1939, in Carlinville, IL, the daughter of Roy and Marthel (Fries) Weller. Carole married her high school sweetheart, Don R. Walton, on November 30, 1957, in Carlinville.
Carole graduated from Carlinville High School in 1957. She went on to work for General Motors Acceptance Corporation; MJ Grove Lime Company in Maryland; and lastly as the office manager for Don’s company, Walton and Associates Architects, for over 30 years. Carole was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church; past president and served on many committees for Springfield Art Association; past board member of Illinois State Museum Society; a member of Dancing with the Starz; chair for Prairie Art Alliance, and a member of the King’s Daughters. She also chaired Luminaria at Relay for Life for 14 years. Carole was an energetic soul who loved people and enjoyed cooking (she was known for her delicious Christmas cookies), gardening, collecting art, and being an active nana and mother. She also loved traveling with Don, especially to Sanibel Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carole is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Don Walton of Springfield; children, Kristin (Pete) Cavanagh of Springfield, Bradley (Anne) Walton of Des Plaines, and Todd (Natalie) Walton of Rochester; grandchildren, Hayley (Kevin) Stern, Spencer Walton, Abigail and Mallory Walton, and Daniel, Clare, and Nieve Cavanagh; and great-grandchild, Brooks Stern.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with Fr. Fredrick Chima Mbiere, B.A., Ph.D. officiating. Inurnment will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
