He was born in Roswell, NM, on July 19, 1954, the son of Ronald and Irene (Shuman) Janecek. Carter married Tonya L. Bosie in Springfield at the First United Methodist Church on May 14, 1994.
Carter was the life of the party and loved to make people laugh. He attended Riverside Brookfield High School in 1972 and graduated from Western Illinois University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Carter worked for the Juvenile Detention Center in St. Charles, Aetna Insurance, and Crawford Insurance before retiring in 2022. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Bears, Cubs, and Blackhawks, Dallas Cowboys, and NASCAR. He was also known as “Coach Carter”, as he extended his love for sports as a kids’ baseball and Springfield JFL football coach. Carter additionally volunteered his time after retirement with Moving Pillsbury Forward. He loved to host parties and have a good time with his family and friends. He also loved to travel with Tonya, friends, and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Irene.
Carter is survived by his wife, Tonya; son, Jerron (Riviera) Janecek; daughter, Alicia (Chuck) Zich; grandchildren, Clara and Avery Zich and Sage Janecek; brother, Craig (Sandra) Janecek; aunt, Midge Goodwin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 2941 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield. Ceremony will follow immediately after with Pastor Justin Snider officiating.
Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
