Catherine "Cathy" Bernet

Catherine A. Bernet, 73, of Springfield, passed away at 9:26 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at her residence. Cathy was born February 25, 1942 in Ashland, IL, the daughter of John "Buzz" and Lucille Bordenkircher Jones. She married Gene Bernet on February 6, 1965 in Ashland, IL. Cathy was a devoted wife and giving mother. In addition to being a loving housewife, Cathy was also a certified reflexologist. She enjoyed knitting, reading, and working in her flower garden. She was a Cardinal's fan, and loved spending time with her family. Cathy is survived by her husband, Gene Bernet of Springfield; two sons, Jeff (wife, Kari) Bernet of Odenton, MD and Ron (wife, Jen) Bernet of O'Fallon, MO; two daughters, Deb (husband, John) Kreifels of Omaha, NE and Sherry (husband, Ted) Cybularz of Defiance, MO; ten grandchildren; one brother, John (wife, Beth) Jones of Ashland; one sister, Mary (husband, Ted) Deen of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1930 Barberry Dr., Springfield. The gathering will begin with a prayer service. Concelebrated Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Ring, presiding and Rev. Larry Brunette, concelebrant. Inurnment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O.
