Cecil C. Appel, 81, of Springfield, passed away at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Villa Health Care East in Sherman. Cecil was born on January 4, 1935 in Bazine, KS, the son of Elmer and Rachel Schegel Appel. He married Carmen Hagerman on May 25, 1955 in Kansas. Cecil purchased the Automotive Machine Shop in Great Bend, KS in 1972. He owned and operated the business until he retired. He loved racing, working on cars, gambling, fishing, and working with his hands. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Lee Appel; and daughter, Dianna Kay Appel. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; his daughters, Lorilea (Robert) Sanders of Springfield, and Cheryl (Dennis) Wagner of Joplin, MO; 4 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cleatus Appel of TX, and Lores Appel of Great Bend, MO. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family services were held.
