

Charles Leo "Chick" Bean, 89, of Springfield, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital. Chick was born on August 17, 1928 in Springfield, the son of Charles R. and Grace M. Chandler Bean. He married Jeanette Carver on August 31, 1957 at St. Agnes in Springfield; she preceded him in death in 2013. Chick served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a clerk for the United States Post Office for 36 years, retiring in 1992. Chick was a member of the K of C #364, the Holy Name Society, the American Legion #32, and a member of St. Agnes Parish for over 70 years. He loved his family and was a wonderful father and grandfather. When not spending time with his family, he also enjoyed golfing. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Mary Grace Graham, Helen Eherenman and Richard A. Bean; two nephews; and two nieces. He is survived by his son, David C. (Elena) Bean of Gloucester, MA; two daughters, Nancy B. (Michael) Smith of St. Louis, MO and Grace M. (Brad) Stater of Eureka, MO; six grandchildren, Alison M. and Grant D. Bean, Matt S. and Maria E. Smith, and Ben B. and Sophie G. Stater; one sibling, James R. Bean of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield with Rev. Robert J. Jallas, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
