

Chuck was born December 6, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Roy Beard and Isabel Wanless Robinson. He married Susan Powell on September 1, 1990, in Springfield.
Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1956. He was co-owner of Henson Robinson Company for many years, retiring in 1993. Chuck was also a board member and Treasurer of Sangamon State University Foundation, a founder of Springfield Alliance of the Mentally Ill, a founder of Illinois Alliance of the Mentally Ill, a long-time board member of the Central Illinois Mental Health Center, and a founding partner of the Racquet Club. He loved playing golf, taking family to Cardinals games, and having people to the house for gatherings. Chuck loved his family dearly and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Henson Robinson; stepbrother, Phil Robinson; and stepsister, Margie Lobingier.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Susan of Springfield; sons, Chuck Beard, John (Teresa) Beard, Tom Beard, and Pete (Carrie) Beard, all of Springfield; stepsons, L. J. (Tina) Powell of Sherman and Sean (Donna) Powell of Athens; grandchildren, Libi, Lili, Marina, Max, and Gus; and step-grandchildren, Konrad, Kolton, Lauren, and Campbell.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Cathedral Church of St. Paul, 815 S. 2nd St., Springfield, IL. A Requiem Mass will follow with the Very Rev. Andrew S. Hook, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity.
The family wishes to thank Memorial Home Hospice and the caregivers from Heart and Hands Care Service for their excellent care of Chuck.
