

Charles was born October 21, 1938, in Springfield, IL, the son of Leroy and Bernice Courtney Karrick. He married Nancy Mae Sommer on September 6, 1958 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Springfield, IL.
Charles attended Feitshans High and then entered into the U.S. Air Force at the age of 16. He proudly served as an airman first class, working his way up to staff sergeant within nine years from 1955 to 1964, stationing in Japan for two years and in Fort Worth, TX for six years during his time. Charles was employed with Borden Chemicals for 38 years until his retirement. He worked in both Plant 1 and 2 as a safety foreman. Charles was a member of Illiopolis Catholic Church and enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, watching western movies and the news, and was a very handy man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Becky Lynn Kalaskie; and his brother, Leroy Karrick, Jr.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy of Illiopolis; children, Charles E. (Dorothy) Karrick of Sherman; Kathy K. (Todd) Roth of Chatham; and Marie Ann (significant other, Harold Brandon) Bartolazzi of Auburn, IL; grandchildren; Adam (significant other, Corrine Schinzler) Kincaid, Matt (Kt) Kincaid, and Michelle (significant other, Scott McKay) Kincaid, Andrea (Jon) Kraus, Audrey (Justin) Hahn, Kristy (Jay) Behrends, Kevin (Elise) Hopkins, Kelsey (Tanner) Brown, Rick (Katelyn) Roth, Morgan Roth, Jake Roth, Annie Bartolazzi, and Daniel (Jenny) Bartolazzi; and great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Cody, Elizabeth, Nolan, Addison, Emily Jo, Georgia, and Colt Bartolazzi, Hayes Hopkins, Ellowyn Roth, Lucy Hahn, and Wren and Marin Kraus.
Graveside Ceremony: 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2024, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and Department of Defense.
