He was born on November 4, 1935, the son of the late Robert Carl and Marcella (Holmes) Martin. He married Betty Jean DeCroix on Jan. 19, 1957 and she preceded him in death in October of 1999.
Charles was a retired firefighter for the city of Springfield. He was a member of the Retired Firefighters Association.
He is survived by his 3 children, Cherie (husband George) Jaworski, Connie (husband Al) Griffin, and Charles H. Martin, all of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Jim Baker, Joshua Baker, Jesse Baker, Christie Vick, Immajen O’Grady, and Hallie Griffin; many great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Everett Martin of GA, and Lonnie and Rick Martin, both of CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Griffin; and 4 siblings, Dodi Brawner, Bonnie Fry, Don Martin, and Ronnie Martin.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield, where visitation will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 from 10 am until time of the funeral service at 11 am. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Springfield Fire Department, payable to City of Springfield/Fire Dept.
