

Charles H. McDonald, 83, of Springfield, passed away at 6:40 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2001 at St. John's Hospital. Charles was born July 11, 1917 the son of John and Julia Guth McDonald in Quincy. He married Lydia T. Baliva November 20, 1943 in Springfield. She preceded him in death May 14, 1984. Mr. McDonald was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWII. He worked for Fiat Allis as a machinist and he belonged to the International Association of Machinist in Springfield. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Lydia T. McDonald and ten siblings. He is survived by two daughters: Vickie L. (husband, Mike) Brinkman of Rochester, Ginny L. (husband, Terry) Helton of Rochester; one brother: Norman McDonald of Chatham; two sisters: Anna Mae Hatcher and Shirley Gorden both of Springfield; four grandchildren: Hethyr Helton of Colorado, Shaye and Krystl Helton both of Springfield, Fayre Helton of Rochester; one great grandson: Ashyr Helton and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 22, 2001 with a wake service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 23, 2001 with the Rev. William Kessler officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct Military Honors. The family of Charles H.
