

Charles is survived by four sons: Douglas (Pat) McLean of Auburn, and David, Donald, and Dennis McLean all of Springfield, two daughters: Diane (companion Stan Becker) Hendren and Denise (Lonnie) Brown both of Springfield, one brother Donald (Delores) McLean of Normal, IL., ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McLean was a US Army Veteran stationed in Germany, attained the rank of Sergeant, and received the Army Commendation Medal. After his military service, Charles returned to Springfield where he was a patrolman with the Springfield Police Department for 27 years. In addition to his career in law enforcement, Charles was a member of the Illinois National Guard retiring in 1994 as a Master Sergeant. Mr. McLean was active in the Fraternal Order of Police, he was also a Buick Riveria enthusiast and collector, he enjoyed spending mornings with his friends at the Fairhills Mall Mel-O-Cream, and working out at the St. John’s Prairie Heart Institute. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday September 17, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Fr. Jeff Grant officiating and the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County conducting Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Parish.
