

Christopher M. Buchanan, 44, of Chatham, died at 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Christopher was born November 27, 1973, in Springfield. He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1991 and attended Lincoln Land Community College. He owned and operated Buchanan & Son Trucking. Christopher was a five-time champion basketball coach and two-time Fantasy Football champion. He coached his childrens and nephews sports teams. Christopher was an avid San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was associated with Springfield First Church of Nazarene. Christopher would tell you that his greatest accomplishment was being a single dad and raising his children. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Leroy "Buck" and Dora Jane Buchanan; maternal grandmother, Nina M. Wanless; aunt, JoEllen VanHouten; and uncle, Paul M. Wanless. He is survived by his children, Haley R. Buchanan of Springfield, Ramsey A. Buchanan and Jaren C. Buchanan, both of Chatham; mother, Kathryn M. (Michael) Calvert of Chatham; father, David M. (Robin) Buchanan of Springfield; siblings, Michael D. (Mandy) Buchanan of Chatham, Blake A. Buchanan of Sullivan, Eric R. (Amanda) Pedigo of Glenarm, Aubrey L. (Chad Jackson) Calvert of Sarasota, FL, Nicholas R. Pedigo of Springfield, and Kaleb M. Buchanan of Springfield; best friend, Craig (Melissa) Babbs; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Prince officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
