Clara Helen Jaskolski Krug passed away at her home in Springfield on February 24, 2009. Clara was born July 6, 1909, the eighth of nine children to Catherine and Frank Jaskolski in LaHarpe Kansas. The family moved to Springfield when Clara was a toddler and she remained a proud Springfield citizen ever after. Amongst her siblings she was the only one to achieve the privilege of graduating the eighth grade. Clara met Albert Henry Krug, also of Springfield at a friend's wedding where he was immediately convinced she was the girl for him. By October of 1934 he had convinced her too and they were married. They were blessed with two sons, Albert Henry Jr. and Donald Eugene. Many will recall Mrs. Krug as the lively "lunch lady" at Springfield High, Feitshans High, and South East High School cafeterias where she worked for 30 years until her retirement in 1974. She traveled extensively by bus and train; visiting most of the US and Canada. Her favorite trip of all was a visit to the Redwoods of California with son Al. Having lived to the impressive age of 99, Clara was often asked her secret to longevity. Her answer was hard work. "I work every day" she would say, "Each day I say, Lord, you've given me another day, help me to know what to do with it." Clara leaves behind to cherish her memory, grandchildren Terry Krug and Tami Frederickson of Utah, Kevin Krug and Kristee Watts of Texas, and Brent Krug of California. Also, beloved nephew and nieces Tom Smith, Doris Riecks, and Shirley Dorr of Springfield. As well their spouses and many great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend everlasting thanks to Mr. Washington of Washington's Caf and the Daily Bread program for providing vital and gracious service these last several years. Family will receive friends from 3:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Harman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Services of Central IL- Daily Bread Program, 701 W. Mason St., Springfield, IL 62702.
