Clara Smith Morano

Clara Smith Morano, 92, of New Berlin, died at 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at her home. Clara was born August 13, 1923 in Springfield, the daughter of John and Mary Fredericka Ade Wolf. She married Lester Smith and he preceded her in death. She later married James Morano, who also preceded her in death. Clara was a 1941 graduate of New Berlin High School and attended Brown's Business College. She proudly served her country in the United States Navy during WWII. She retired from SIU School of Medicine as a secretary and previously worked as a secretary for New Berlin High School. She was also a bus driver for New Berlin, and was the co-owner of Les Smith Cycle Sales with her husband. Clara was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Motor Maids Women's Motorcycle Club. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, furniture restoration, and spending time with her family. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bill Wolf; and two grandsons, Joshua and Lucas Smith. She is survived by three children, Stephanie Burge (Skip Caddick) of Springfield; John (Michelle) Smith of Rochester, and William (Paula) Smith of New Berlin; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. David Benning officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
