

Classie was born on October 28, 1936, in Marvell, AR, the daughter of Marion (Bit) and Elnora Miller Davis.
Classie graduated from M. M. Tate High School in Marvell, AR, class of 1955. She earned a bachelors degree from Sangamon State University and a masters degree in Library Sciences from the University of Illinois. She worked for the Lincoln Library from 1982 to 2008 as a Librarian in Childrens Services and Reference and Information Services. Classie and her family were members of Central Baptist Church. Later in life, she became a member at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school to 2 to 4-year-old children. Classie was also an Associate Dominican Sister, where she was a member of their Anti-Racism Team. She loved walking in Lincoln Memorial Garden, traveling, having lunch with her friends, reading, playing word games, and spending time with her grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Eloise and Lynn Campbell.
Classie is survived by her son, Kevin Murray (Judy) of Elkridge, MD; daughters, Alisa Stovall of Fort Wayne, IN and Tracey Murray White (Rob) of Park Forest, IL; four grandsons, Alfred Stovall III, Kevin Murray, Jr., Jerras Murray, and Braylon White; and sister, Faye Campbell of Cleveland, OH.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Memorial Ceremony: 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL.
A private burial will be held by the family at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.
