

Clyde J. Smith, 89, of Springfield, previously of Fort Myers, FL, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Concordia Village Care Center in the care of Passages Hospice. He was born in Greenview, IL on December 27, 1923, the son of Geraldine and Clyde G. Smith and grandson of Edgar and Grace Page. He married Marian E. Stevens on October 19, 1944 in Springfield. She preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were their sons, Michael J. Smith and James P. Smith, and his brother, Phil Rolfs. Clyde was a graduate of Springfield High School. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp and he worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company for over 40 years. He had his IL Realtor's License and a Ham Radio License. He was a charter member of the Church of the Little Flower and a member of their Men's Club. He was also a charter member of K of C Council #4179. Survivors include one son, Jay (wife, Cheri) Smith of Henderson, Arkansas; three daughters, Barbara (husband, Tom) Alexander and Suzanne Link of Springfield, and Kristin (husband, Rick) Walbert of Rochester; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, with another due in February; a brother, Frank Rolfs; and many nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 am 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass: 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Dr., with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola celebrant. Private family burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Concordia Village Scholarship Fund, 4101 W. Iles Ave., Springfield, or a charity of the donor's choice.
