Having not seen Mr. Hunter for many years, I was nevertheless saddened at his passing. What I still remember is the days in the 1950's we shared as members of the" Prop Busters" model airplane club in Springfield where I had grown up, married and later moved to Rockford, IL in 1963 when we lost contact.
His skills in building accurate and detailed models of the WWII (and earlier era) aircraft models was outstanding. Little did I know at the time of his accomplishments in the field of aeronautics and the prestigious awards he had won. He did however, speak of his service during the war in Europe including the woulds he had received in combat as an infantry officer. This exposure to the war through him was to later stimulate the interest I still possess in the study of the European theater amassing a large collection of books written by actual combat participants and visiting many of the sites in France, Belgium and German. In doing so, his legacy lives on somewhat within myself. MAY HE REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!

Dale - I had many great hours as a young man listening to jazz with you (Yes Sidney Bechet was great on the soprano sax) and your advice and care with model planes helped me along to finally get my pilots license. Rest well my friend God's peace Rich

Dale you were a good friend and neighbor. Although you never lived next to me you owned your parents home across the street from me. We often mowed the large lot together and i came over and visited you on your breaks from mowing. You also let us use your driveway for high school senior photos with cars. So happy to see you and pray with you a few weeks ago. You are loved and will be missed.

Oh the memories I have of Dale & Virginia from my childhood. Always a good time at Lake Springfield, with my parents, Dale, Virginia & my sisters. Way too many to list but the ones I will always remember is his black, black mustache & always having his captain's hat on :) He will be dearly missed but never forgotten & he is finally with his beloved Virginia & hopefully having a few laughs with my Dad. Till we meet again Dale, sail on!!
