

Dan was born October 31, 1939, in Springfield, a son of Joseph and Eva Kress Cadigan. He married Mary Margaret “Peggy” Weber on October 18, 1969.
Dan graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1957, attended Springfield Junior College, and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He joined the firm Kerber, Eck & Braeckel LLP in 1961 where he was a managing partner. Dan worked with his favorite people at KEB for 43 years. They always enjoyed playful banter and playing practical jokes on each other. Dan never knew a stranger and was a friend to everyone. He was a leader, mentor, and role model to many.
Dan’s name and reputation are synonymous with admiration and generosity due to his activities and contributions to the Springfield community. His volunteer efforts spanned more than 50 years and included youth, business, and governmental organizations. Dan held many leadership positions and served on the boards for many community organizations such as the American Business Club, the Illinois CPA Society, the American Institute of CPAs, the Association of Government Accountants, the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, Leadership Springfield, the Chaine de Rotisseurs, and the Marine Bank Board.
He served on the County Board, was a United Way Chairman, and taught accounting at Springfield College in Illinois. Dan was the “Irishman of the Year” in 1986 and was the 52nd Recipient of the Copley First Citizen Award in 2014. He was the first member of the Sacred Heart-Griffin Hall of Fame and was on many fundraising committees at SHG over the years. One of his greatest loves was volunteering at various local schools. Dan taught current events at Blessed Sacrament School and, in recent years, at Graham Elementary School.
Dan was a member of the Sangamo Club and Island Bay Yacht Club. He was an avid history buff, Los Angeles Dodgers fan, and a University of Illinois fan. Dan gave generously to the “I Fund” and loved his Illinois and SHG sports. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He was a wonderful father and the best grandpa to his two favorite grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Patrick Cadigan.
Dan is survived by his wife, Peggy Cadigan of Springfield; daughter, Shannon White of Springfield; grandchildren, Blake and Benjamin White, both of Springfield; sister, Susan A. Cadigan of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Patty Cadigan of Myrtle Beach, SC and Patty (Scott) Shapiro of Dayton, OH; brother-in-law, Mike Weber of Las Vegas, NV; one niece; and six nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Due to COVID restrictions, there will be limited capacity. Family and friends may view the mass via livestream by clicking HERE
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
