

David was born on January 13, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, the son of David Henry Berry, Sr. and Eleanor A. Berry. He married Beverly May Maulding on May 14, 1960, in Springfield. He and Beverly recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary together.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and retired from the State of IL, Department of Transportation after 37 years as a Materials Engineer. He was an 83-year member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and a quartet for many years and tutored math for kids at the church. After Elliott Avenue Baptist Church’s closing, he and Beverly joined First Baptist Church-Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Berry of Springfield; one son, Randall (wife, Ju Chien Hsu) Berry of Evanston, IL; two grandchildren, Mason and Ian Berry; and three siblings, Eleanor Land of Literberry, IL, Nancy Smith of Beardstown, IL, and Thomas (wife, Julie) Berry of Washington.
He had wide interests that included being an amazing artist, designing and building RC airplanes, playing golf (and building golf clubs), reading about modern physics, and watching classic movies.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who took great joy in his grandchildren and watching his son be a great father.
Memorial Gathering and Memorial Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Boardman-Smith Funeral Home, 800 S. Grand Avenue West, Springfield. A Memorial Ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brian Hastings officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
