Denzil Lee Scales, 71, of Springfield, died at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Denzil was born on December 20, 1946, in Russell Springs, KY, the son of Omer and Ilda Gosser Scales. Denzil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a truck driver for over 30 years. He was a member of Eastview Baptist Church and was the head of the social committee at Homestead at Montvale. Denzil enjoyed spending time with his family and grand-dogs. He also liked going to vintage car shows, fishing, gardening, playing poker, and being social at Homestead. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Dawn (husband, Gaylen) Heckman of Eleva, WI, Tonya (husband, Jeff) Spann of Springfield, and Annie (Scales) Valenti of Springfield; six grandchildren, Kylie Spann, Shelby Adams, Briana Spann, and Garrett, Owen, and Tyler Heckman; and siblings, Marlene and Lonnie (wife, Jill) Scales, both of Springfield. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
