Dolores Suzanne Trello, 88, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Dolores was born on June 29, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to Hubert and Gladys (Carroll) Acres. Her early school years were in Jacksonville where she graduated from Jacksonville High School. She graduated from Memorial School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1958. After a career in nursing, she went back to school and attended Lincoln Land Community College and Sangamon State University in Springfield, Illinois. She then furthered her education at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with a doctorate in clinical psychology in 1992. She worked at Christian County Mental Health as a therapist and then opened her own private practice in Springfield in April of 1993. She provided service to the Department of Rehabilitation services, Social Security Department of Disability, Central Illinois Service Access, and many individuals in the community. In addition to her private practice of many years, she also had a lengthy tenure at Sangamon State University/University of Illinois Springfield teaching in the Human Development and Counseling Program. She was a valued educator and mentor to many students. Working was her passion and she was the consummate professional. Her professionalism was tempered by her compassion, her humanity, and her love of people. Her other joy was spending time with colleagues, friends, and family, especially her grandchildren, Nicholas and Aly.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodie Kathlene “Kathie” Trello Rishel; grandchildren, Aly and Nicholas; brothers, George, Alfred “Al”, and John “Jack” Acres; sisters, Murial Bergstralth, Anne “Nan” Doolin, and Susan” Susie” (Dan) Gust; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; brother Robert “Bob” Acres; and niece, Jadene Hindert.
Visitation & Funeral Services: Visitation will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL until the time of the services at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Dolores was known for her intellect, wit and wisdom and she will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
