

Don Gottschalk, 77, of Springfield, died at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Don was born September 25, 1934 in Bloomington, IL, the son of Conrad M. and Clara Flachsbart Gottschalk. Don earned his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, and his Master of Science at Illinois State University in Normal. He was a professor at Lincoln Land Community College and also had a private practice in psychology. He also taught at Illinois College in Jacksonville and Bradley University in Peoria. Don enjoyed photography, wood-working, sailing, flying, and was a world traveler. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his companion of thirty years, Janice C. Smith of Springfield; son, Kurt Gottschalk of Manhattan, NY; daughter, Kristin Gottschalk of Brattleboro, VT; two grandchildren, Cayden and Grace Learey, both of Brattleboro, VT; and brother, Roger (wife, Marilyn) Gottschalk of Platteville, WI; one niece; one nephew and several cousins. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
