

He was born on August 29, 1934, in Springfield, IL, the son of Harold and Marie (West) Halberg. Don married Dolores Schlosser, and she preceded him in death.
Don graduated from Lanphier High School in 1953. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Don went on to work first for Pillsbury, and later as a specification writer for the IL Dept. of Transportation for 29 years, from which he retired in 1991. Don was a lifelong member of the Springfield community that enjoyed golfing, playing cards at Eagles Club, and watching sports (especially the Las Vegas Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals). He was known as humble, accommodating, and easy-going.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joan Ramirez.
Don is survived by his son, Eric Halberg of Greenview, IL; sister, Karen McFarland; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering and Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield, followed by the Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Keith Masten officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided.
