

He was born on December 25, 1931 in Litchfield, IL, the son of the late Wilbur and Verla (Zinn) Crain.
Mr. Crain worked as an inspector for Fiat Allis in Springfield for more than 30 years. He was a member of Mt. Auburn Church of Christ and of the Amvets. He was a standout athlete at Mt. Auburn High School. Donald played semi-pro basketball and semi-pro baseball in the Springfield area and also played basketball and baseball in the military while serving with the U.S. Army. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was honored with a tryout with them. He also was an avid Illini and Chicago Bears fan.
He is survived by 5 children, Randy Crain of Auburn, IL, Cindy Fowler of Springfield, Brenda (husband Bruce) Brauer of Auburn, IL, Becky Crain of Springfield, and Robert (wife Suzanne) Crain of Gardner, KS; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister Pauline Bond of Washington, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded In death by 1 grandson; 3 brothers, Wilbur “Carroll”, James Zinn, and Robert Boyd Crain; and a sister Dortha Mae Crain.
Services are under the direction of Bisch Funeral Home West, Springfield. Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10 am at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with Rev. David Harmon officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Interveterans’ Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the U. S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
