

Doris Jean (Matteson-Cumby) Clark, 79, of New Berlin, passed away at 2:07 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Doris was born September 14, 1938 in Charleston, IL. She married James H. Clark on Rampart Range in Colorado on July 26, 1999. Doris graduated from New Berlin High School, class of 1956. She retired from the Illinois Secretary of State after working there for more than 24 years. Affectionately known to some as "The Candy Lady," she was famous for her homemade peanut brittle, fudge and divinity. She was a member of Calvary Church and taught Sunday School classes there for over 18 years. She loved flower gardening and was awarded the 2017 New Berlin Area Community Development League Award for her beautiful yard. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; and sons, Mike and Rick Cumby. She is survived by her husband, Jim Clark of New Berlin; daughters, Kim Smith of Denver, CO and Gail (John) Tefft of Strasburg, VA; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at McCullough-Delaney & Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson Street, New Berlin. Additional Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Calvary Church, 1730 West Jefferson, Springfield. A funeral ceremony will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Jim Austin, Paul Rose and Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodwreath Cemetery.
