

She was born March 24, 1944, in Springfield, IL, daughter of Harold and Louise (Pellman) Shepard. She was the first born and had one sister, Carol (Shepard) Case.
Dorothy was a graduate of Lanphier High School in 1962. She worked for Illinois Bell until 1970 when her second son was born. Dorothy then worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation where she retired in November of 2012 after 38 years of service. She devoted her life to raising her two sons, Mark and David, as a single mother. Her children were her life, and she continued devoting time once they were adults to going to lunch with them bi-weekly. Dorothy enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs with her son. She also loved old movies and tv shows such as The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy. Dorothy was a woman of faith who attended Calvary Temple for the past 53 years. She never missed a Sunday at church until she physically could no longer attend. Dorothy worked in the nursery at Calvary Temple for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Louise (Pellman) Shepard; sister, Carol Case; and one son, Mark Cohn.
Dorothy is survived by her other son, David Cohn of Springfield; granddaughter, Izzie Cohn (Kyle) of Springfield; great-grandson, Mylo Galeano of Springfield; daughter in law, Sonya Cohn of Rochester; niece, Christina Lewis of Springfield; nephew, Jeffrey Case (Kim) of St Louis MO; and great-nieces, Hannah Lewis of Olney, IL and Madison Lewis of Edwardsville, IL.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Calvary Temple Church, 501 Hazel Dell Road, Springfield, IL, until the time of the Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dawn Stuemke officiating.
Burial will immediately follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. No reception will follow the visitation and burial services; however, a reception will take place on Sunday March 22nd for immediate family and friends in Honor of Dorothy’s birthday.
