

Dorothy A. Stead, 83, of Springfield died at 8:12 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at St. John’s Hospice. Dorothy was born August 19, 1920 in Springfield, the daughter of Bartol and Mary Pershina Mlaker. She married Francis Stead in 1944. Mrs. Stead retired from the State of Illinois Secretary of State’s office where she had been employed as a clerk. She had also been employed at Sangamo Electric. She was very active with the State of Illinois Workers Union, AFSCME. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament and Christ The King parishes and the Blessed Sacrament Altar and Rosary Society. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters: Mary Hanson, Ann Janowiak, Bernadine Welch and Albina Mlaker and one brother, John Mlaker. She is survived by her husband, Francis “Frank” Stead of Springfield, son, Michael (wife, Deanne) Stead of Springfield, three daughters: Barbara (husband, Ronald) Maley of Auburn, Janet (husband, William) Regner of Tempe, AZ and Mary Lynn (husband, Brian) Fairchild of Rochester, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother, Bert (wife, Gina) Mlaker of Springfield, five nieces and three nephews. Family will receive friends at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2004. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. A Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2004 at Christ The King Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr David Lantz, principal celebrant. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery.
