Douglas M Sneed

Douglas M. Sneed, 70, of Springfield, passed away at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. Douglas was born February 7, 1942 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Perry and Nina Whitson Sneed. He married Judith Laird on May 21, 2011 in Springfield. Douglas was a 1960 graduate of Litchfield High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He retired in 2001 after 38 years with Aramark Uniform Services. He was known for being funny, generous, caring, and a little bit ornery. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, reading, gardening, working in the yard, and spending time with his family and his dog. He is preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Sandra Allen Farmer; and his second wife, Shirley Sneed. He is survived by his wife, Judith Sneed, of Springfield; two daughters, Shelley (husband, Terry) Troxell of Terre Haute, IN and Gulden (husband, Kevin) Sneed-Schaul of Springfield; two step-sons, Lonnie (wife, Debbie) Ragland of Auburn and Scott (companion, Heather) Ragland of Litchfield; three grandchildren, Doug Perry Troxell of Terre Haute, IN, Denver Haslett of Springfield, and Dallas Schaul of Springfield; siblings, Donald (wife, Ellie) Sneed of Litchfield, Nina (husband, Raymond) Herzer of Rockton, IL, and John Sneed of Reno, NV; six step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and faithful companion, Rocky. Cremation was accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. A small memorial service celebrating Douglas's life was held in the Sneed home and attended by his family, close friends, and neighbors.
