

Edgar �Jeff� Milton Barnes, Jr., 76, of Springfield, formerly of Auburn and Chatham, passed away at St. John�s Hospital on Saturday, June 21, 2014. He was born September 26, 1937, in Chatham to the late Edgar and Lois Dickey Barnes. Jeff graduated from Ball Township High School in 1955. He married Sharon Eileen Fox on October 26, 1958. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #437, Amvets Post 61 (Past Commander), American Legion Post #32, and Moose Lodge in Pana. He worked as a union carpenter and for the Secretary of State in maintenance, retiring after 22 years of service. Jeff was an Army veteran and served during the Berlin Crisis and served in the Illinois National Guard. He led a life well lived� by having a good time, traveling in the RV Jayco Club and spending time in Florida. He and Sharon were members of the Pawnee Pioneer Camping Club. Jeff was active in the Chatham community as a former volunteer firefighter with the Chatham Area Fire Protection District. Cremation rites will be accorded before services at Cremation Services of Central Illinois, Chatham. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Pech of St. Charles, MO, and Cyndi (Mike) Griffin of Springfield; grandchildren, Alysha, Casey and Shana Branham, Kimber and Jared Griffin; great grandchildren, Ryan, Alaina, Brodie and Gigi; brother, Donald Lee Barnes of St. Charles, MO; sister, Regina (Mike) Manning of Pawnee; aunts, Ruth Branham of Springfield and Virginia Barnes of Chatham; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. His family will greet friends from noon until the time of memorial service at 2pm, Wednesday, June 25, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, with Marty Nagel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, 57 County Place, Springfield, IL 62703.
