

Edna Ruth Barrow, 91, longtime resident of Jerome, IL passed away peacefully at 2:45 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Edna was born on November 21, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Hilbert Ellis and Laura May Fore Barrow. Edna retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service in Accounting and Finance with many accommodations for her work. Following retirement, Edna's love for travel took her across the country and abroad. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed time with many dear long time friends. Edna was an avid reader and photographer; she loved to sew and at the age of 80 took up oil painting. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert Barrow. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Barrow; nieces, Nancy Valpatic (John) of Wanatah IN, Taryn Barrow (Mark) of Plainfield, IL and Lori Hickman (Jimmy) of Williamsburg, VA; nephew, Larry Barrow (Rhonda) of Euless, TX; and many great-nieces and nephews. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m with military honors provided by Department of Defense.
