Edna H Dees

She was born July 2, 1912 in Decatur the daughter of Otis J. and Faye Goodson Bear. Mrs. Dees was a graduate of Pontiac High School, attended McMurray College for 2 years then attended the University of Illinois where she graduated in 1934. She taught English in Washington, IL prior to her marriage to Sherwood Dees on June 5, 1941 in Leipsic, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sherwood Dees in 1997, daughter, Katherine J. Treadway in 1973, daughter Susan E. Dees in 2005, sister Ruth Legge and brother Paul Bear. Surviving are son, Sherwood C. Dees (Cathy) of Bartonville, son James E. Dees (Patricia) of Chatham; sister Gene Moorhead (Rex) of Sun City West, AZ.; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Surviving in-laws include Lloyd Dees of Urbana, Francis Foster of Champaign and Rev. David Dees of Bloomington/Normal.

Mrs. Dees lived in the Illinois Towns of Washington, Fairbury, Olney and Dixon before moving to Springfield in 1964. She worked at Myers Bros. Department Store and as a substitute teacher in Springfield District #186. Mrs. Dees resided at the Bickford House Senior Living for the past 5 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church-West.

Memorial contributions will be donated to the Glendale Heights, IL. Junior Woman’s Club P.O. Box 5584, Glendale Heights, IL. 60139 to enhance and perpetuate their Susan E. Dees Memorial Scholarship which was established in 2006. This $1,000.00 scholarship has been awarded annually to a young woman from that community to facilitate their college studies.

Visitation will be held Thursday Feb. 17, 2011 at Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel from 10:00 AM until the time of services there at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ken Dees officiating. Interment will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
