

Edward F. Schofield, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 5:11 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. Edward was born March 11, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Edward P. and Margaret H. Zoeblein Schofield. He married Eleanor G. Ericksen on June 27, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY; she preceded him in death. Edward was a graduate of Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, class of 1941. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII in 1941. He was in the Army Reserves from 1946-1950 and during this time pursued a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic University. Edward had an accomplished 30 year career as an engineer with John Dusenberry Manufacturing, working mostly in New Jersey and New York. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #364, as well as an engineering fraternity. He was known for being an intelligent man and dedicated father, who enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, and golf. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille Delles. He is survived by his sons, Edward N. (wife, Virginia) Schofield of Springfield and Peter F. Schofield of Roselle Park, NJ; one sister, Diane McCarthy of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 South Walnut St., Springfield with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin De Porres Center, 1725 South Grand Ave East, Springfield, IL 62703.
