

Eileen Brooks Rose, 88, of Springfield, died at 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at her residence. Eileen was born on November 27, 1917 in Auburn, the daughter of Oscar W. and Nellie M. Brasfield Studebaker. She married Charles Wayne Brooks on May 25, 1938; he preceded her in death in 1990. She later married Clarence Rose; he also preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Rose worked for Hugh A. Campbell, Sheriff of Sangamon County from 1959-1963 and later served under Sheriff John Christianson. She worked in the Sangamon County Probate Clerk’s Office for 2 years and served under Secretary of State Paul Powell. She was matron of the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department and a Deputy Sheriff during her twelve years in the sheriff’s office. She retired in 1975. She was a member of the Auburn Presbyterian Church until 1996, later joining the Baptist Church in Evansville, IN, and the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville upon her return to Illinois. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Geneva “Studie” Green and Mary Lucille MacMurdo; and infant brother, Manford Studebaker. She is survived by one son: Gary Brooks of Granite City, one daughter: Cheryll Atkinson (companion, Dennis Bondy) of Springfield; two grandchildren: Teri and Michael Atkinson both of Springfield; three nieces and one nephew. Cremation will be accorded by The Cremation Tribute Center. Memorial Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield with Rev. John Kay and Rev. Samuel Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Auburn Cemetery in Auburn. The family of Eileen Rose is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
