

Elizabeth Chamberlin "Betsy" Ellertsen, 95, of Springfield, died on August 10, 2008 at Oak Terrace Health Care Center. Betsy was born April 5, 1913 in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Dr. Edwin J. and Margaret Walker Chamberlin. She married Birger W. Ellertsen on February 22, 1938 in Knoxville, TN. Birger preceded her in death in 1997. Betsy obtained her B.A. and her M.A. from the University of Michigan. She lived in Norris, TN for 50 years where her husband was a forester with the Tennessee Valley Authority. She was a homemaker and a volunteer community organizer for the Anderson County Community Action Commission during the 1960's as well as being a member of the Norris Religious Fellowship. Since 1998, Betsy resided at the former Oak Terrace retirement community and Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Springfield, serving on the congregation council of Atonement Lutheran Church. Preceding Betsy in death were her parents; brother, Dr. Thomas Chamberlin; and sister, Margaret Chamberlin Parker, both of Grand Rapids. She is survived by her son, Peter Ellertsen and her daughter-in-law, Debi Edmund-Ellertsen of Springfield, in addition to several nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Family will receive friends for a memorial gathering from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2800 W. Jefferson St., Springfield, IL 62702. A funeral ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Atonement Lutheran Church with Pastor Jon Berg, officiating.
