Elizabeth "Liz" Reid-Toomey

Liz was born on January 6, 1960, at St. Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel Robert and Shirley Ann Reid.

She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Passavant School of Nursing, and St. Francis College. Liz also attended the National Louis University in Chicago, where she earned a professional education license that was endorsed by the Illinois State Board of Education. Liz was employed at Memorial Medical Center, Doctor’s Hospital, and the Springfield School District 186. She loved Florida and spent many holidays in Lauderdale by the Sea with her beloved daughters, Kathleen and Sarah.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Robert Reid.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Ann Reid; brother, John (Denise) Reid; and sisters, Ann (Tony) Libri and Sarah (Brian) Beeman. The core and center of Liz’s life were her beloved daughters, Kathleen Anne (Cody Dozier) Toomey and Sarah Elizabeth (Mike Zemlachenko) Toomey. She loved them to the moon and back!

Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.

Memorial Gathering and Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, September, 7, 2023 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave, Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower, celebrant.

Private family burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Matthew Project, Easy Does It Club, or the Animal Protective League.

Liz wishes to thank her family for their love and support during her journey. She is thankful for her friends being such an integral part of her life. Her daughters, Kathleen and Sarah were her life and she takes with her their spirit and love, “Forever – Now”.
