

Elizabeth "Liz" Mims, 69, of Springfield, passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at her residence. Liz was born May 20, 1948 in Baton Rouge, LA, the daughter of Rowland Powell Holley, Sr. and Lucille Nichols Holley. She married Ted Mims on July 28, 1973 in Baton Rouge, LA. She retired from East Baton Rouge Parish School System after 20 years of service as a teacher and guidance counselor. She was honored as the Outstanding Young Educator of the Year in 1972 by the Baker Jaycees. In 1990, she moved to Springfield, IL and had a career with Mary Kay Cosmetics from 1991 until her retirement in 2015. She was consistently a top producing consultant in her unit. She was loved and respected by all and was always willing to share her knowledge and skills with others. While in Springfield, she served as Visitation Minister at Central Baptist Church. She was a member of Women Entrepreneurs of Central Illinois and served one term as President. Liz was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Springfield and served as an usher. Liz will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help others using her counseling skills to listen and help them work through difficult issues. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ted Mims; son, Dr. Jon (wife, Jacqueline) Mims of Campobello, SC; daughter, Holley (husband, Sean) Easter of Normal; three grandchildren, Amelia and Soren Easter, and Jon Mims II; four brothers, Powell (wife, Pat) Holley of Bluff Creek, LA, Michael (wife, Billie Anne) Holley of The Bluffs, LA, Jeff (wife, Nelda) Holley of Tampa, FL, and Kim (wife, DeWanna) Holley of Port Vincent, LA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies. Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Memorial Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 2941 South Koke Mill Road, Springfield, with Dr. Roger Ross officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Baton Rouge, LA.
