

She was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Lowder, IL the daughter of Harvey Lee and Cora Ethal (Spencer) Ballinger. She married Alvin L. Burris Sr., in 1950 in Collinsville, and he preceded her in death Oct. 19, 1996 after 46 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, June Smith, and three brothers; Russell, Ronnie and Kenneth Ballinger.
Emma Lee worked at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel and the Capitol Dome lunch rooms and also Ray Conn Catering for several years, and retired in 1975 from Springfield School District #186 as a cook at Enos School.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping, traveling and spending winters in Clear Water, Florida after retirement. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her one and only grandson during his childhood days.
Surviving are her son, Alvin L. Burris Jr of Springfield, her grandson, Jason A. (wife Misty) Burris and 2 great granddaughters; Bailey M. Burris and McKenzie Morrison all of Buffalo, IL., her brother, Ed (wife Pat) Ballinger of Virden, and a sister-in-law, Arlene Ballinger of Virden.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Capital Care Center for their compassionate care through out the years.
Cremation Rites were accorded by the Bisch Crematory. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Rev. Mark Gifford will officiate. Those who wish may direct memorial contributions in her memory to the Capital Care Center 555 W. Carpenter, Springfield, IL 62702.
