Esther E. Cullen

Esther E. Cullen, 81, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Springfield, died at 7:15 a.m. Monday, May 03, 2004 at Trisun Windcrest Nursing Home in San Antonio. Esther was born August 18, 1922 in Springfield the daughter of John and Catherine Poverskie Sokolis. She married John J. Cullen August 4, 1954 in Decatur; he preceded her in death July 14, 1994. Mrs. Cullen worked for 15 years for First National Bank and also Sangamo Electric. She was a member of American Legion and La Femmes Cabane #344 where she served as Past President. She was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Kate Simpson, Martha Baugan, Edna Schuerman and Elfrida Reilly and three brothers: William, Henry and Herman 'Harry' Sokolis. She is survived by one daughter: Sharon (husband, James) Lister of San Antonio, TX; two sons: Dewey L. (wife, Susan) Bales of Cincinnati, OH, John Bales of Roseburg, OR; two sisters: Virginia (husband, Kenneth) Floyde of Rushville, Margaret Prudencio of Patterson, CA; two brothers: Richard Sokolis of Springfield, Robert Sokolis of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. A Prayer service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 902 St. John's Drive, Sherman with Rev. Eugene Costa celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may made to St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 902 St. John’s Drive, Sherman, IL 62684.
