

Eugene ''Gene'' Joseph Bartolo, 95, of Springfield, passed away at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born March 31, 1905 the son of Peter and Maria Bartolo in Calascio, Italy. He married Anne Agnes Bestudik December 25, 1932 at St. Aloysius Church. She preceded him in death December 4, 1997. Mr. Bartolo first worked at the Springfield Watch Factory. He was then self employed for several years as the owner of Standard Auto Parts and several gasoline stations. In the early 1950's he established a garage at his own home as a mechanic which he operated until 1994. He was a certified mechanic instructor for School District #186 Vocational School for several years. He was a founding member of the Anchor Boat Club and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Don Bartolo. He is survived by one daughter: Rosemary Elizabeth (husband, Bill, Jr.) Steele, of Springfield; two sisters: Fay Frasco of Springfield, Anne (husband, Tom) White of Springfield; three grandchildren, five step grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2001. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Patrick Render C.S.V. celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
