

Ferdinand “Ferd” Hilton, 92, of Springfield, died at 7:55 p.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Capitol Care Center. He was born on October 26, 1914 in Manning, SC, the son of Collin and Wilhemina Longs Hilton. He married Letha Ruddick in 1978 in Las Vegas. Ferd was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran achieving the rank of Corporal. During his service time he was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a happy gentleman who was always smiling and had a great sense of humor. He was a good fisherman and enjoyed cooking. He was employed as a gardener and also was a maintenance man for a bowling alley and the city of San Diego, CA. He is survived by his wife, Letha Hilton of Springfield; one son, Gregory Felder of CA; one daughter, Ernestine Boatright of South Carolina and one step-daughter: Vicki Nordin of Springfield; several grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two sisters: Elise Taylor and Marie Dukes both of South Carolina and other relatives and friends. Cremation accorded by Cremation Tribute Center, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Graveside Ceremonies will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2007 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Scott Brindley officiating and military honors will be conducted by the Department of Defense. The family of Ferdinand “Ferd” Hilton is being served by Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield.
