She was born in Carbondale, May 15, 1911 the daughter of Orland and Maye Shettleworth Newman. She married Harry A. Herring and he preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her son Thomas A. Herring in 1998, a sister, Elizabeth White and her nephew William White.
Mrs. Herring was a graduate of Southern Illinois Normal University and was a school teacher. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Springfield Symphony Guild, Springfield Art Association, Abraham Lincoln Association and several women’s clubs.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Kingsley of Springfield; grandchildren, Elizabeth Varney (Matt), Pen Herring (Wendy) and Charles Herring and by her daughter-in-law Sally Herring.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday Nov. 12, 2014 in Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale. Memorials may be made to Kemmerer Village 941 N 2500 East Rd, Assumption, IL 62510. Boardman-Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. (www.boardman-smith.net).
