Florine E. Mathis

Florine Emery Burklow Mathis passed away at 7:50 pm, September 28, 2016. Florine was born February 23, 1924 in Carterville, IL to Thomas Coy and Vena Deloach Emery. She graduated from Carterville High School in 1941 and married Rev. Audy Burklow on Nov 30, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1978. She married William O. Fox on April 24, 1982. He preceded her in death in 1991. She married Delbert I. Mathis on September 5, 1992 and he survives. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and three brothers.

Florine is survived by one daughter, Janet (Gene) Burcham of Pawnee, IL, one son, Keith (Nancy) Burklow of Springfield, two stepsons, Darrell Mathis of Springfield, and Ted (Phyllis) Mathis of Arvada, CO; three granddaughters, Karen (Jon) Klister of Round Lake IL, Laura (Rick) Zahm of Huntington, IN, Emily (fiancé Chris Mueller) Burklow of Springfield; Four grandsons, Nicholas (Kimberly) Burklow of Beaverton, OR, and Andrew, Alex, and Aric Burklow of Springfield; three step-granddaughters, Chelsea (Paul) Linscott of Hungary, Holly Mathis of New Berlin, Gloria (Cody) Mattson of Arvada, CO, three step grandsons, Chad (Rebekkah) Mathis of Fayetteville, AR, Shane (Rene) Mathis of Oregon, WI, and Justin (Dawn) Mathis of Arvada, CO; six great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica Klister, Emma and Madison Zahm, Juliet Burklow, and Trent Burklow. Ten step-great grandchildren, Melody, Leah, and Logan Mathis, Levi, Ella, and Ezra Linscott, Kayla and Keenan Mattson and Bennett and Miles Mathis.

She is survived by one sister, Louise Purdue of Carterville, IL and one brother, Rodger (Brenda) Emery of Hollow Creek,TN as well as many nieces and nephews.

Florine ran a upholstery business for several years and helped her first husband in positions in the church at local, area, and state levels. She loved cooking, especially baking, and quilting. Most of all she liked seeing her family. Florine was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church and the Ashland Baptist Church Women's Mission Society.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 9:30 to 11:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00am at Cherry Hills Baptist Church, 2125 Woodside Road, Springfield, IL.
