

Frances Duke Hagel, 96, of Springfield, died at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2006 at her residence. Frances was born on February 3, 1910 in Riverton, the daughter of Julius J. and Apalonia Banes Butkis. She married Leo F. Duke in 1933 and he preceded her in death on January 13, 1944. She then married Lawrence W. Hagel in 1946 and he also preceded her in death on June 3, 1962. She was a graduate of Riverton High School and Brown’s Business College. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was an active member of the St. Joseph Guild and St. Louise De Marillac and a member of AARP. She was formerly employed at CWLP, CIPS and as a secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Anton Butkis and Al Butkis; two sisters: Lillian Slofkoski and Em Lancelot and one stepson: Lawrence Hagel. She is survived by one son: Gordon L. Duke of Port Charlotte, FL; four grandchildren: Michael (wife, Tina) Duke and Christopher Duke, both of Arizona; Robert Duke and Lindsey Duke, both of Springfield; two great-grandchildren: Noah and Mia Duke of Arizona; one step-granddaughter: Kay Parch of Iowa; one brother: Frank Butkis of Helmet, CA; three nieces: JoAnn Giganti, Audrienne Hamilton and Sylvia Slofkoski and one nephew: Donald White. Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1345 N. 6th St., Springfield, with Rev. Msgr. Thomas P. Holinga, V.F. celebrant.
