

Springfield-Frederick Lewis Riecks, Jr., 66 of Springfield, passed away at 9:24 pm Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with various effects stemming from his pancreatic cancer “whipple surgery” 12 years prior to his passing.
He was born in Springfield, Sept. 2, 1949 the son of Frederick L. and Doris M. (Taylor) Riecks Sr. His father preceded him in death, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his mother, Doris, his brother, Ronald Riecks of Springfield, his sister, Roxanne (husband Kenny) Vennell of Chatham, his niece, Amy (husband Ried) Carlson and his twin nephews, Ryan and Scott Vennell.
Fred graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, and then graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, IL. He worked for the Illinois Department of Public Health for 36 years retiring at the end of 2011.
He was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield, where he served as an usher for many years. He was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan.
Visitation: The Riecks family will greet family and friends at Bisch and Son Funeral Home on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 4-7 pm. Additional visitation will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church 2477 W. Washington, Springfield, IL from 9-10 am Tuesday, October 20, 2015.
Additional Visitation and Service: Additional visitation will be held from 9 am until time of the funeral service at 10 am Tuesday October 20, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church 2477 W. Washington, Springfield, IL with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
