

Gary L. Hamilton, 64, of Riverton, passed away at 11:31 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Gary was born February 2, 1949 in Springfield, the son of Eldon and Ruth Smith Hamilton. Gary proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. and received the Purple Heart award and Navy Commendation Medal. He worked as a security guard at Department of Agriculture and was a former member of the Sangamon County Sheriff's Dept. as an Auxiliary Officer . Gary was a member of Koke Mill Christian Church. Gary enjoyed deer hunting, watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon, and was an avid Cubs fan. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eldon Jr. "Bud" and Tom Hamilton. He is survived by his children, Michelle Turner of Riverton, Leeann (husband, Ronnie) Kendall of Riverton, Dawn (husband, Dillon) Woods of Riverton, Ruth Hamilton (companion, Kyle Welch) of Springfield, Ashley (husband, Francesco) Ribaudo of Springfield, and Justin Hamilton of Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Abbie, Brittany, Chad, Kyle, Chloie, Clayton, Cayden, Brooklynn, Madison, Julianna, and Dominic; two brothers, Don "Ric" (wife, Rose) Hamilton of New Berlin and Bob (wife, Neda) Hamilton of Rockway Beach, MO; companion, Becky Day of Athens; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Stan Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
