Gary Lynn Smith, 58, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2009 at his residence. Gary was born on March 17, 1951 in Springfield, the son of Nolan and Helen Darlene Nichols Smith. Gary graduated from New Berlin High School. He later became owner of Kitterman's Shop in California. Gary was a Christmas fanatic and was a handyman that enjoyed woodworking. Preceding Gary in death are his parents, Nolan and Darlene Smith; and a nephew, Eric Taylor. He is survived by his daughters, Shannon (husband, Tory) Leonard of Springfield, Erin (husband, Phil) Kaufmann of Pleasant Plains, and Kaitlyn Smith of Morris; five grandchildren, Taylor, Mason, and Brady Kaufmann, Camerin and Colton Leonard; sister, Bonnie Taylor of Springfield; one niece, Tanya Sibert and her children Brendan and Shae Sibert. Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home, 714 E. Gibson St., New Berlin. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at McCullough-Delaney and Butler Funeral Home with Ed Ingram officiating. Burial will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Smith Memorial Fund at any Marine Bank location.
